El Escorial bicycle tours
Meeting point at Bravo Bike's office on calle Juan Alvarez Mendizabal, number 19, street level and transfer by van to El Escorial (1h drive) where we will visit the monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial founded by King Philip II. The cultural tour starts at the new art museum where we can admire paintings of El Greco, Rubens, Van Dyk, Tintoretto,Titian's Last Supper or Tibaldi's frescoes, just to mention a few artists of this outstanding collection. Afterwards, we will see the house of the king, the mausoleum or pantheon, the basilica and finally the outstanding royal library where more than 40000 editions of Latin, Greek, Arabic and Hebrew manuscripts are still exposed.
The Bike tour begins with a visit to the "Casita del Principe". From
there we will climb to the chair of Phillip II carved in the rock.
Later, we will pedal on easy dirt trails to the nearby village of Zarzalejo
where we have a good three course lunch, drinks included. From there, we enjoy some more
bicycling back to El Escorial. Transfer by minibus back to the
hotels in Madrid.
Bravo Bike offers only for advanced cyclists a bike tour starting from our office in the city center of Madrid (2166 feet high) to El Escorial (3334 feet), mostly on off-road tracks. It will take us about 4 to 5 hours bicycling to cover the distance to El Escorial which is approximately 50 kms/ 32 miles long, biking on rolling terrain with up-hills. We will have lunch on our way. On our way back we will take the train to Principe Pio train station. (1 hour journey)
-Route adaptable for beginners, medium or advanced bicyclists, families with children, schools, universities or incentive bicycle programs. At least 30 km or 20 miles, few up-hills. The bicycle trip can be extended or shortened depending on the group's ability level.
