Chinchón & Aranjuez bike tour

We will meet at the Bravo Bike office near Plaza de Espana and transfer by van to Chinchon (1h drive) where we visit its well-known Plaza mayor or main square which is the architectural highlight. The three-story frame houses with their wooden balconies have been completely restaured recently. During the month of August bullfights are presented on the square. There, we bicycle through some narrow streets, visit some shops, the Parador hotel and the Chinchon castle from where we have an excellent view over the city and the new high rise buildings of Madrid. Chinchon is also well-known for producing an aniseed liqueur with the same name. The food is excellent in most of the surrounding establishments. The typical choices for any lunch in Chinchon are sliced chorizo, order also the excellent la Mancha cheese or sopa castellana made with garlic, ham, bread and egg. As the main dish we suggest to try the suckling pig or roasted lamb.

Thereafter enjoying the beautiful countryside, we bike first to Colmenar de Oreja, and then bicycle a lovely down-hill stretch towards Aranjuez along the river Tajo or Tagus. There, we visit the Royal Palace, its garden and have a 3-course menu lunch where the Royal Families used to spend their springtime. Aranjuez is also famous for its impressive agricultural flatland known for its strawberries, asparagus and peppers.

Bravo Bike tours also offers the possiblity to start this trip by bike in Madrid and end it in Aranjuez from where we return by train or van to Atocha train station. This tour is only recommended for advanced bicyclists.

Route for medium or advanced cyclists. (35 kms/22 miles, mostly level with a down-hill section). The route might be adapted to any bicycling ability level, family friendly, personalized guided tour with van support.
