Self-guided Tour Description

 

Tour profile:

The tour is flat, you will cycle mostly on cycle pathes or side roads.

Day 1: Veszprém
Your first day starts in Veszprém - the city of Queens. You have the opportunity to enjoy the historical places and the unique atmosphere as well as to discover this lovely town before the first cycling day.

Day 2: Veszprém - Balatonfüred ( 38 km/24 miles)

This day is a special one because this is the first meeting with the idyllic landscape, the charming villages and the lake. You will see everywhere grapefields which were planted in the Roman times. The accommodation stand still in Balatonfüred the capital of lake Balaton. The most common words in connection of this city are history, culture, wine and hospitality. 

Day 3: Balatonfüred - Badacsony (50 km/31 miles)

Today you cycle to the peninsula of Tihany were you visit the 950 years old Benedict Abbey which was built on the top of an extinct vulcano. After the sights of Tihany you will follow the cycle path which follows the lakeside. Nearly everywhere you can stop for a little swim. Todays destination will be Badacsony, located in one of Hungarys oldest wine regions.

Day 4: Badacsony - Szentbékkálla ( 30 km/19 miles)

After breakfast you will visit the Szegedy Róza and Museum in which you can see how people lived in this region 200 years ago. Afterwards you will follow the Roman way and the Balaton cycle path to reach Szigliget, where you visit the 250 years old Winemuseum. Passing extinct volcanos and the oldest villages of Hungary you will arrive in the authentic village of Szentbékkálla.

Day 5: Szentbékkálla - Tótvázsony (36 km/22 miles)

Today you will use hidden roads which go through charming little villages like Köveskál, Szentantalfa or Óbudavár. You discover the beauty of Balaton Uplands National Park and the idyllic landscape of grapefields. You finish the leg in a nice and quiet hotel in Tótvázsony at the foot of the Bakony mountain.

Day 6: Tóvázsony - Balatonfüred (39 km/25 miles)

You leave in direction Nagyvázsony where you visit the famous catle for which many battles have been fought since the XV. century. The castle is unique for its five storey living tower. Afterwards you cylce through small charming villages until you reach the Pécsely basin and winearea. It is always worth to taste a glas of wine in a local cellar and continue the trip to Aszófö. From here you follow the cycle path to Tihany and Balatonfüred.

Day 7: Balatonfüred - Veszprém (34 km/21 miles)

On your last cycling day you use the Balaton cycle path which follows the coastline. You will have the opportunity to stop for a refreshing bath or an ice cream as many times as you like to. At Balatonalmádi you can climb to the Óvári look-out from which you have a wonderfull view over the lake district. Afterwards you arrive back in Veszprém for a nice walk through town.

Day 8: Veszprém
