Salzburg - Vienna
From Mozart’s city of Salzburg into the heart from Europe to Vienna – passing medieval cities, fortresses and monasteries, along the rivers Salzach, Inn and Danube – into the untouched Upper Danube Valley and the beautiful Wachau Valley. Bike tour with light and level day legs, the first 2 legs with a few gradients.

Day 1: “Salzburg – Burghausen” (approx. 55 km)
Individual arrival in the Mozart-town Salzburg until 9 o`clock a.m. at the latest. We leave Salzburg by taking the bike path along the bank of the Salzach to Oberndorf. The Christmas carol "Silent Night, Holy Night" was written here in 1818, as the little "Silent Night Chapel" reminds us. In the afternoon we will reach our destination for the day: Burghausen, with the longest castle buildings in Europe.


Day 2: “Burghausen – Schärding” (approx. 68 km)
After riding through the largest wooded region of the Inn district - Weilhart Forest - we come upon the Inn-Salzach view. We pass through Braunau before we reach Obernberg, a thousand-year-old town. Shortly after that we arrive the Reichersberg abbey, where the canons ot St. Augustine live for more than 900 years. From Reichersberg it is not far to our hotel in Schärding our stage destination.
Day 3: Schärding – Schlögen (approx. 59 km)
Today we cycle on the nature way to the "three river town" Passau. The roundtour via the cathedral-, the residence- and the town hall place ends with the visitation of the huge cathedral. At 12.00 o`clock we can listen to an organ concert (except on Sundays and public holidays) on the largest church organ of the world. In Passau we start cycling at the southern side of the Danube until the ferry in Engelhartszell. There we cross the Danube and ride at the northern side to Schlögen.
Day 4: Schlögen – Linz (approx. 54 km)
At first our way leads through the big double loop of the Danube. Then we cycle through the villages Aschach, Wilhering and Ottensheim to Linz.


Day 5: Linz – Ardagger/Grein (approx. 65 km)
We leave Linz and go on cycling via Mauthausen or Enns, the oldest town of Austria (bike ferry Enns-Mauthausen-Mostviertel), to Wallsee. In the afternoon we reach the beautiful old bargee town Grein, where we can visit the oldest still playing theatre of Austria.
Day 6: Ardagger/Grein – Melk/Emmersdorf (approx. 55 km)
Today we cycle through the Strudengau and the Nibelungengau. In Marbach the pilgrimage centre of Maria Taferl greets us from the hills. Then we cycle to Melk/Emmersdorf, where we can visit the famous Benedictine convent.
Day 7: Melk/Emmersdorf – Krems – Wien (approx. 40 km per bike, train journey)
Today we ride through the beautiful Wachau region, well known for its choice wines. Our route takes us through Spitz and Weißenkirchen to the romantic Dürnstein, where the ruin of the former Kuenringer castle greets from the hill, where Richard the Lion Heart was once taken captive. Soon we reach Krems, where we shall hand over the bikes (if bikes booked) in our contract hotel and travel the rest of the way to Vienna by train (tickets have to be organized by yourself, good connections).
