The famous Danube trail
The most famous cycle path in Europe : Passau to Vienna along the beautiful Blue Danube. Discover a wonderful landscape, picturesque villages and be impressed by the uncountable sights from the time of the Romans and Nibelungen. Schlögener loop, Strudengau, Nibelungengau or Wachau - each region has its unique attraction. You cycle along the Danube through a beautiful landscape with forests and meadows. Art and cultural properties tell stories from long past times, and "Weinschenken" and inns invite you to enjoy the culinary „Schmankerln“. The Austrian hospitality and the Austrian cuisine will make this trip an unforgettable experience.
Dificulty:
The path is completely paved, flat, almost always directly along the river bank, very suitable also for beginners and children.

Electric bikes
You also have the possibility to rent an electric bike. You can use the electric motor to do some of the work for you. Our “Flyers” (a Swiss product) increase your pedalling power 3 fold. This way, bikers with different athletic conditions can book a bike tour together.
ROUTE:
Classic A / B is our recommendation with a good balance of cycle tour and nice accommodations (comfort rooms in cosy hotels and inns) in the most popular villages and towns closed to the most famous sights. You taste the for this region typical wine and titbits. We transport your luggages from hotel to hotel and organize also the transfer back to Passau.
Day 1: Passau
Independent arrival to Passau . The nearest Airports will be MUNICH and Vienna (for international flights) and Linz (for Inner-European flights). Organized transfers on demand. Book your
train ticket Munich Airport - Passau. Use any extra time for a walk through the picturesque old part of town, or take a boat cruise around this city of 3 rivers (not included).
Day 2: Passau – Schlögener Loop/Surroundings (approx. 44 km / 28 miles)
Personal welcome meeting in the morning. Afterwards, you receive your bikes. You cycle through the Upper Danube Valley to Schlögen. In Engelhartszell you can visit the only „ Trappisten“ Monastery in Austria , where you can taste very good liqueurs. You cycle on through the impressive Danube loop, where the river makes an about turn of 180 degree.
Day 3: Schlögener Loop/Surroundings – Linz , (approx. 53 km / 33 miles)
There are little ferries between the banks; enjoy this special experience. You cycle through the Eferdinger basin en route to Linz , the upper Austrian capital. Enjoy the summer evening with a shopping tour in the charmful old part of the town.
Day 4: Linz – Grein/Surroundings (approx. 60 km / 38 miles )
Tip: Make an excursion to Enns, the oldest city of Austria . You cycle through the Celt village Mitterkirchen, the church in Baumgartenberg and the romantic castle Clam. At the end of the day, you reach the beautiful baroque town Grein, where you can visit the oldest theatre of Austria.
Day 5: Grein/Surroundings – Melk/Surroundings (approx. 51 km/32 miles)
You enjoy the Danube landscape of the Struden and Nibelungenau, with high wooded rock formations on the left and on the right sides of the Danube . High over the Danube stands the pilgrimage church of Maria Taferl . Already from a distance, the Benedictine Monastery Melk greets you.
Day 6: Melk – Krems/Traismauer (approx. 40/55 km; 25/35 miles)
Another highlight of this cycle tour is the beautiful landscape of the Wachau. You can find wine terraces, apricot trees, and castles and monasteries between them. During your travel to Krems you cycle through the attractive wine places of Spitz, Weissenkirchen and Dürnstein. Along the way you see cosy Taverns, where you can enjoy the Austrian hospitality.
Day 7: Krems/Traismauer – Vienna (approx. 39km /25 miles)
With the train you leave the unique cultural landscape of this UNESCO world heritance region. In Tulln you start your last leg of cycling. Don’t forget to visit the Monastery in Klosterneuburg before you reach Vienna!
Day 8: Vienna - Passau
Make sure to visit the famous „Naschmarkt“ and the beautiful castle Schönbrunn. Train ride back to Passau (bus transfer with own bikes possible with surcharge of 30,- Euros), or extended stay in Vienna .
