Lake Neusiedl bike tour
The region of „Puszta“ and reed-belts, where lovely
vineyards are seen on the horizont, is Austrias
youngest UNESCO-Worldheritage area – the region of
Lake Neusiedl.
Explore the Pannonian lowlands around the largest
steppe lake of Central Europe. The lake is located in
the southeast of the Danube Metropolis Vienna. This region
offers the largest, aligned bike path net in Austria. Here
you will find a national park, where more then 250
different types of birds are living. Vacation in the
national park „Lake Neusiedl“ signifies „Puszta Romance“, a mild climate until late fall, well equipped
bike paths in a picturesque landscape with its
manifoldly wild life, flora and numerous bathing and
leisure facilities. You will find plenty of wine producing
villages around the lake, imposing castles and the historical, Hungarian city of Sopron with its beautiful
medieval city center.

Tour Description
Day 1: Podersdorf
Individual Arrival. Free Parking in front of the hotel
available. Check-in, bike hand-over.
Day 2: Lake Neusiedl bike path (approx. 50 km/31 miles)
Start by cycling along the northern banks of the lake through picturesque villages and quaint towns until you arrive in Rust, “The Village of the Storks”. Return back to Podersdorf by ferry.
Day 3: Wine and culture bike path (approx. 43 km/27 miles)
The wines from this region are very delicious, don’t miss
tasting the one or other wine along todays bike-tour.
During your ride through the vineyards and small hills
today you can enjoy the wonderful view over the region
and the lake. The castle “Schloß Halbturn“ is the most
important baroque-building of this region/province the „Burgenland“.
Day 4: „Lackenradweg“ Bike path through the
marsh puddles (approx. 48 km/30 miles)
"Lacken“ – the marsh puddles are approx. 50 cm deep
salty small or big lakes. This attraction of the lake region
causes the unique flora and fauna. Today you will bike
through untouched nature – when you watch carefully
you will see a lot of animals.
Don’t miss the “special” pigs with its fur.
Day 5: Rest Day
A day to relax. Enjoy the lake with its numerous
possibilities. The lake is a paradise for enjoying the sun
and the water. You can go sailing or windsurfing. Or relax
in the spa area of your hotel.
Day 6: Sopron/Hungary (approx. 60 km/37 miles)
Take the ferry on the other side of the lake. From the
festival town of Mörbisch (famous Austrian summer
festival) you reach the Hungarian town of Sopron. The
historical city center with its lifely streets and medieval
buildings will fascinate you.
Day 7: „Kirschblütenradweg“ – Cherry-blossom-bike path
(approx. 40 km/25 miles)
After a ferry ride to the other side of the lake, you will
pass the romantic vineyards and cherry trees (blooming
in spring). Wonderful views over the lake and the
Hungarian lowland will make you forget the few uphill
stretches of todays bike tour.
Day 8: Podersdorf
Relaxed from a wonderful week you can start your
journey back home. If you do have some extra time what about an extension stay in Vienna? By bus or train
you can reach Vienna within approx. 1 hour.

All paths are paved or gravelled. The region is mostly flat with only a few uphill stretches on the Hungarian side. All bike routes can be custom and accordingly planned.
Hotel & rooms: located directly on the banks of the lake, almost side by side; breakfast-room,library, elevator, restaurant with regional cuisine, generous wellness-area with sauna, steam bath and indoor pool, whirlpool; internet; all rooms with private facilities, cable-TV and telephone.
