FAMILY SPECIAL WITH CHILDREN
through the Sierra de Guadarrama
This bicycle tour is specially designed for families with children between the ages of 7-12. The different stages and the program itself have been tailored to suit both parents and children. Therefore, interesting visits and activities are included.
Day 1
After the hotel pick up, we drive to El Escorial in our mini-bus. (1 hour drive) and to the hotel. We can make a short tour to get acquainted with the town and the cycles.
Day 2
We will start the tour in El Escorial visiting the Monastery, its parks, its paths and the dam. We will cycle through paths flanked by 100-year old trees and brooks. In the early evening we will return to the hotel. Free evening.
We recommend a visit to the Monastery with one of the most remarkable and interesting libraries and an art collection, as well as the rooms that Phillip II used.
Day 3
We will cycle along somewhat steeper paths to arrive at the Seat of Philip II carved in the rock and from where he observed the construction progress of his palace to-be. We will ride along a Roman road that went from Mérida to Segovia and on lovely paths that will take us to a small village typical of the Sierra with a spikey name: Zarzalejo, meaning “prickly bush”, the following onto Robledo de Chavela - another village which hosts a satellite tracking system. We will be returning by mini-bus to El Escorial. You can visit the Theatre, stroll through the gardens or sit on one of the many terraces to enjoy a drink or an ice cream.
Day 4
This day we start off towards Segovia. On the way we will stop to ride in the grounds of the Palace of Riofrio- once a hunting royal residence- where deer and other animals are abundant. We will also stop at the Granja de San Ildefonso, visiting its lovely Palace with its many beautiful fountains, to finally arrive in Segovia. We have lunch followed by an afternoon free to visit its many monuments. The perfectly preserved thousand year-old aqueduct and the gothic cathedral, the majestic Alcazar (Castle fortress) take us back to medieval times. If you feel like it, we suggest a ride on the banks of the river surrounding part of the town.
Day 5
After a decent rest and a hearty breakfast, we take the mini-bus and drive to the Valley of the Fallen, Valle de los Caidos, built in a nature park surrounded by pine trees and rocky formations. This is a unique monument -carved out of mountain rock- to commemorate the fallen of the Spanish Civil War. The views are spectacular: on a clear day you can see Madrid and all her surroundings. The Basilica carved inside the mountain and topped with a huge cross, made out of granite stone, 150 mts high and with a span of 92 mts, an impressive monument. From there we will go to Manzanares el Real, where we will visit its Castle and will tour the lovely paths around it. We will cycle to Soto el Real, where we stop for lunch. We then will continue by mini bus to Madrid.
Day 6
Free day. We suggest you visit the Royal Palace or go to the Zoo and the Delfinarium.
Another choice is taking a Madrid cycling tour (at your expense) through the Casa de Campo -a large park- visiting the lake, where cycling is smooth and safe.
Day 7
A nice place to spend your free time would be the Retiro Park.
Transfer to the airport at the agreed time.
